Leading with Purpose: Meet Fr. Cardone

Father Joseph Cardone is chief mission officer for Bon Secours Mercy Health, a provider of health care solutions and services and one of the largest health systems in the U.S. and Ireland. He leads the ministry’s initiatives to extend understanding about the organization’s Catholic heritage and identity among employees, leaders and board members. 

Previously, Fr. Cardone served as the chief mission officer and senior vice president of mission and values for Mercy Health, as well as vice president of mission and values integration for Mercy Health — St. Vincent Medical Center and Mercy Health — Children’s Hospital in Toledo, OH (now Nationwide Children’s Hospital Toledo). 

Described as a “thoughtful, compassionate servant leader,” Fr. Cardone has presented on the contribution of Catholic medical ethics to palliative care and has participated in interviews and discussions about the role of Catholic hospitals in providing care.  

Fr. Cardone was ordained a priest in the Diocese of Toledo in 1987.
