Mercy Health Select ACO was recently listed as a Becker’s Hospital Review Top ACO to Know 2024.
Accountable care organizations – also known as ACOs – are physician and health system led groups that identify health care delivery savings. They often partner with Medicare programs while also assisting private insurance patients.
ACOs like Mercy Health Select aim to provide quality care at a reduced cost, saving patients, health systems and payers, like Medicare, millions of dollars annually.
Mercy Health Select (MHS) ACO provides high-quality care while reducing costs for its 107,000 Medicare beneficiaries in Ohio, Kentucky and Virginia through a collaboration of hospitals and 6,500 providers. It was accepted to participate in the Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP) in 2011 and has remained in the program since.
MHS participates in the Enhanced track of the Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP), which is the highest level of downside risk, but also shares the greatest portion of savings if successful. Over the last two years, MHS added 1,400 new providers and 30,000 new beneficiaries. Since its inception in 2011, MHS has created $163 million in savings for CMS and $103 million in earned shared savings and was one of the top 10 ACOs in the country for earned shared savings in 2020, 2021 and 2022.
MHS was one of just a few ACOs able to successfully submit electronic clinical quality measures (eCQMs) for 2023 quality reporting. In 2024, the ACO is working to improve patient outcomes, experience and cost through the optimization of progressive programs like skilled nursing facilities network development, remote patient monitoring expansion, chronic condition pathway implementation, and annual wellness visit completion rate enhancement.
