Biography

Colleen Scanlon is the Senior Vice President, Chief Advocacy Officer, at Catholic Health Initiatives in Englewood, Colorado. In this role, she directs the development and integration of a comprehensive advocacy program within one of the largest Catholic health care systems in the country. Previously, she was director of the American Nurses Association Center for Ethics and Human Rights in Washington, DC and a clinical scholar in the Center for Clinical Bioethics at Georgetown University Medical Center. Colleen has published multiple articles and book chapters, and lectures frequently. Special interests include palliative care ethics, advocacy on behalf of vulnerable persons, and professional and organizational integrity.

Colleen serves on several Boards and is involved a variety of professional associations. She is the Past Chair of the Catholic Health Association Board of Trustees (2009-2010). She is presently on the Board of Visitors of Georgetown University School of Nursing and Health Studies and the Catholic Medical Mission Board. She also serves as a member of Bon Secours Ministries, the sponsor of Bon Secours Health System.

In 2018, Colleen received the prestigious Sr. Concilia Moran award from the Catholic Health Association for her work in creating healthier communities while serving as an advocate for those in need.

Colleen received her BSN from Georgetown University, an MS in Gerontology from the College of New Rochelle and a JD with a health law and policy certificate from Pace University School of Law.
